A photo of Robyn from the Maui Luxury Team posing on a hike in the Ioa Valley.
Maui isn’t just a tropical paradise — it’s a fitness playground where the ocean, mountains, and trails become your gym. From sunrise beach workouts to rugged hikes with breathtaking views, staying active here is as fun as it is healthy.

Here are some suggestions for using the island terrain during your workout!

Hike Maui’s Famous Trails

Maui’s diverse terrain, from volcanic landscapes to lush forests, means hiking here is as varied as it is rewarding.

  • Waihee Ridge Trail: A challenging 5-mile hike with breathtaking views of the North Shore valleys — perfect for cardio and leg strength.
  • Pipiwai Trail in Haleakalā National Park: Wander through bamboo forests and past waterfalls on this scenic 4-mile loop.
  • Haleakalā Summit Trail: For serious hikers, this historic route to the crater summit offers a long, rewarding trek and stellar views.
  • Twin Falls Trail: A more relaxed adventure with waterfalls and natural pools — great for families or recovery days.

Active Exploration

Beyond traditional hikes, Maui has plenty of spots to keep cardio exciting:
  • Coastal Walking & Running Paths: Trails like the Wailea Beach Path offer scenic routes for morning runs and scenic strolls.
  • Trail Biking & Mountain Trails: Rent a bike and tackle rugged island paths or coastal roads for a full-body adventure.

Beach Fit & CrossFit

A photo of a group of people doing yoga on the beach.
If you’re tired of the traditional gym scene, Maui’s beaches are the perfect backdrop for creative,
dynamic workouts. Sand adds resistance, the ocean breeze keeps you cool, and every session feels like a mini-vacation. Here are some suggestions for island workouts:

Beach Fit Workouts

  • Beach Bootcamp & Group Workouts: Join community fitness groups for sunrise or early-morning workouts on the sand. Beach fit classes, like those at Airport Beach, offer full-body sessions with functional movements right on the shore.
  • Sand-Based Strength Training: Use the natural resistance of sand to intensify lunges, sprints, and agility drills. Remember — the softer the sand, the harder the workout!

CrossFit & Functional Fitness

For fitness enthusiasts who crave structured intensity, Maui has options to keep your strength routine on point.

  • Local CrossFit Gyms: Places like Flow State Crossfit in Lahaina offer daily classes and community energy that help you feel supported while strength and endurance.  Looking for Hydrox classes they have those too. If you are in the Kihei area Aloha Crossfit also offer multiple classes with a great group of people.
  • Open Gym Sessions: Many communities host open gym times — perfect for mixing Olympic lifts, bodyweight circuits, and cardio bursts while socializing with fellow island athletes. Other options are: The Block in Lahaina offering daily classes and monthly beach workouts. Club Maui in Kahana also offers a gym atmosphere with classes & full equipped gym. Looking for Private personal trainers: Built Different Training on Maui will help you with online 1 on 1 coaching or in person.

Why Going it Alone in Maui Real Estate can Cost You More Than You Think

A photo of Maui realtor Robyn Curletti standing by a "Sold" sign in the yard of a house she sold.
Thinking about buying or selling property on Maui without a realtor?

Real estate negotiations on Maui require finesse, market awareness, and strong relationships within the local industry. A knowledgeable realtor knows how to:

  • Structure competitive offers in a limited-inventory market
  • Strategically navigate counteroffers
  • Protect your interests during inspections, appraisals, and escrow
  • Anticipate challenges before they become problems

Trying to negotiate alone—especially in a high-value market—can leave money on the table or expose you to unnecessary risk.

From contracts and disclosures to inspections and closing timelines, Maui real estate transactions involve detailed paperwork and strict deadlines. A realtor keeps everything on track by:

  • Managing documentation and compliance requirements
  • Coordinating inspections, appraisals, and escrow
  • Communicating clearly at every step of the process

This level of support brings peace of mind—especially for out-of-state buyers or sellers navigating the process from afar.

Island-Style Holiday Traditions

A photo of tree ornaments on a Maui beach with the caption "Happy Holidays!"
Have you ever celebrated the holidays in Hawaii?

Maui residents, including Native Hawaiian families, honor both modern and cultural practices throughout the season. Some beloved local traditions include:

  • Santa Arriving by Outrigger Canoe: At beaches like Wailea and Kaanapali, keiki and adults gather to watch Santa paddle ashore in true island style.
  • Mele Kalikimaka Celebrations: Hawaiian holiday music—often featuring ukulele, slack-key guitar, and hula—fills resorts, shopping centers, and community events.
  • Hawaiian Holiday Cuisine: Tables are filled with local favorites such as kalua pig, poke, laulau, lomi salmon, haupia, and holiday classics infused with island flavors.
  • Makana (Gifts) with Meaning: Exchanging locally made goods—such as handmade lei, lauhala weavings, or koa wood crafts—reflects the Hawaiian value of sharing aloha.
  • Community & Cultural Events: From holiday hula shows to Hawaiian craft fairs and Night Market celebrations, Maui’s community spirit shines bright throughout December.

These traditions blend seamlessly with classic holiday fun—stringing lights on palm trees, sunset beach walks, and festive gatherings under starry island skies.

Farm-to-Table and Sustainability on Maui

Photo of a table set for four with flowers and plates, overlooking luxury real estate on Maui from a balcony.
What’s the culture of agriculture on Maui?

Maui’s chefs are passionate about letting fresh, seasonal ingredients shine. Farm-to-table restaurants—from oceanfront fine dining to casual roadside cafes—curate menus that highlight the best of local harvests. Farmers markets, such as the Upcountry Farmers Market in Kula or the Maui Swap Meet in Kahului, give you a chance to meet local growers, sample tropical fruits, and take home island-made treats like macadamia nut honey or fresh-baked banana bread. Napili Farmers Market is also a great place on the west side to find local food and other vendors.

Agriculture here isn’t just about food, it’s also about respecting the earth. Many Maui farms use sustainable and regenerative practices—such as organic farming and water conservation techniques—to protect the island’s fragile ecosystem. By supporting local farms, restaurants, and markets, visitors help preserve Maui’s agricultural heritage while enjoying the freshest flavors the island has to offer. Win-win for everyone!

September is Harvest Season!

Photo of breadfruit on a vibrant tree near luxury real estate on Maui.
Did you know that some of Maui’s best harvests happen in September?

When September rolls around, Maui’s vibrant harvest season begins—the season where island flavors are at their peak, the community comes alive with markets and festivals, and visitors can immerse themselves in the unique agricultural of Hawaii.

Early fall on Maui means an abundance of fresh tropical produce. Mangoes are plentiful, avocados are at their best, and breadfruit (known locally as ‘ulu) begins to appear in markets and menus. You might also find passionfruit, dragon fruit, and taro, staples of Hawaiian cuisine that showcase the island’s agricultural diversity.

Supporting Maui's Creatives

A photo of Philip Sabado, native Hawaiian artist.
Right: Philip Sabado, native Hawaiian artist. Explore his breathtaking art at sabadoarthawaii.com.

How can you best enjoy Maui’s art and artists?

Supporting Maui’s artists doesn’t require a major investment—though taking home a one-of-a-kind painting or sculpture is certainly rewarding. Visitors and residents can attend local art nights, shop at artisan markets, follow and promote artists on social media, and contribute to arts-focused nonprofits, especially those aiding in Lahaina’s recovery. Simply engaging with art—whether by admiring a mural, visiting a gallery, or talking with an artist about their craft—helps sustain this vibrant community.

Living on Maui means immersing yourself in a lifestyle where creativity flows as freely as the ocean breeze. For those who call Maui home, art isn’t just something to observe—it’s the heart of the community. It reflects the island’s stories, values, and aloha spirit. When you make your home on Maui, you become part of this creative story too.

Art Hubs of Maui: Wailuku, Makawao, and Lahaina

"Bailey's Rainbow" by Hawaiian artist Philip Sabado.
Right: "Bailey's Rainbow" by Philip Sabado. Look at it up close and explore more breathtaking art at sabadoarthawaii.com!

Did you know that Maui has a full, vibrant art culture?

Every part of Maui is full of awe-inspiring art, but there are three cities that are considered the major art hubs:

Wailuku got a big surge of creativity over the last few years. This town’s small businesses and coffee shops now share streets with galleries and public murals that reflect the area’s plantation history and Hawaiian legends. Every first Friday, Wailuku hosts “Wailuku First Friday,” an evening of art, food trucks, live music, and local vendor pop-ups that bring the community together.

Makawao, known for its paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) heritage, is the island’s upcountry art destination. Its main street is lined with working art studios, galleries, and boutiques where visitors can watch artists crafting glass, ceramics, and paintings inspired by Maui’s highland. The “Makawao Third Friday Town Party” is a regular celebration of local culture and creativity.

Lahaina was once the heart of Maui’s art scene. While recovery from the 2023 wildfires is still ongoing, the Lahaina art community's spirit remains strong. Local artists and galleries have begun finding temporary homes in nearby towns, and fundraising efforts often feature art auctions and benefit shows. The resilience of Lahaina's creativity is a testament to the enduring power of art in healing and rebuilding.

History and Daily Life Under Maui's Stars

A photo of a sandy beach with a palm tree and the outline of an island in the background, taken at one of the Maui Luxury Team's available investment properties.
Did you know that stars have a big significance in Hawaiian culture?

On Maui, it’s easy for you to enjoy the stars and their cultural significance every day!

Here’s a brief intro to stars in Hawaiian culture, as well as how you can enjoy stargazing as a Maui visitor or resident.

Stars in Hawaiian Culture and Navigation

Before everyone had a GPS, Polynesian navigators relied on the stars. They observed star paths like Hōkūleʻa, the zenith star, to guide their voyages. Ancient Hawaiians used star patterns—like the Southern Cross—as precise latitude indicators (e.g. to know when they’d reached Hawaiʻi’s latitude).

These celestial traditions are woven into local storytelling, chants, and navigation schools—connecting star lovers today to Maui’s rich cultural tapestry.

Daily Life Under the Maui Sky

Living on Maui means you’re never far from stunning sunset-to-star-filled experiences. After a day of surfing, hiking, or visiting local farms, a spontaneous drive up to Haleakalā promises awe and serenity you can’t get anywhere else.

Whether you’re a resident or visitor, experiencing Haleakalā’s night sky is a reminder that Maui’s magic doesn’t end at sunset—it continues high above, where we’re reminded of the deep culture and proud heritage that surrounds us.

Intro to Stargazing on Maui

A starry sky overlaid with an outline of Maui.
Did you know that Haleakalā, Maui’s resident volcano, is one of the world’s premier stargazing sites?

Here’s what makes Haleakalā so magical, as well as some tips for stargazing safely and comfortably.

What Makes Haleakalā Ideal for Stargazing

  • High elevation & clear skies: Rising over 10,000 ft above sea level, Haleakalā’s summit sits above much of the atmosphere’s haze. The result is gorgeous, crisp views of the Milky Way, as well as fainter deep-sky objects.
  • Minimal light pollution: Maui’s remote landscape allows for pristine darkness—offering clear constellations and frequent meteor sightings.
  • Dry, stable atmosphere: The mountain's arid summit often features low humidity and calm conditions, perfect for sharp starlight.

Tips for Visiting the Summit at Night or Early Morning

  • Dress for cold: Maui may be warm, but temperatures atop a mountain can drop well below 40 °F after dark depending on the time of year. Bring layers, hats, and blankets.
  • Plan supplies and comfort: There's no food, seating, or facilities up on Haleakalā —always pack snacks, water, and blankets or chairs.
  • Drive safely: Night-time roads up the mountain are unlit and winding. Respect speed limits and the local wildlife.

TWO MORE Iconic Maui Beaches You Should Visit!

A photo of Kapalua Bay, an iconic beach near luxury homes on Maui.
Kapalua Bay

History: The name “Kapalua” means “arms embracing the sea,” and the bay is part of the historic Honolua Ranch lands, later developed into the luxury Kapalua Resort. It has long been a symbol of elegance and natural conservation.

Activities: Kapalua Bay is famous for its excellent snorkeling and protected waters, thanks to offshore reefs that calm the surf. It’s a great place for swimming and exploring coral gardens filled with tropical fish. The scenic Kapalua Coastal Trail also starts here, offering beautiful oceanfront walks.

Keawakapu Beach

History: Located between Kihei and Wailea, Keawakapu means “sacred harbor.” The beach remained largely untouched until the development of Wailea in the late 20th century, making it a hidden gem even among locals.

Activities: Known for its soft sand and clear waters, Keawakapu is great for swimming, paddleboarding, and long walks along the shore. The beach is less crowded than others, providing a tranquil escape. At the north end, artificial reefs created from old cars and concrete serve as a unique snorkeling and diving site.

Two Iconic Maui Beaches You Should Visit!

A picture of Kaanapali Beach, an iconic beach near luxury homes on Maui.
Kaanapali Beach

History: Once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty, Kaanapali Beach was one of Hawaii’s first planned resort areas. Developed in the 1960s, it played a major role in shaping Maui’s reputation as a luxury vacation destination.

Activities: This three-mile stretch of golden sand is perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. Black Rock at the north end is a popular spot for cliff diving and underwater exploration. The beach is also lined with restaurants, shops, and beachside resorts, making it an ideal location for both daytime adventure and evening relaxation.

Napili Bay

History: Napili has retained its quiet, residential charm despite being nestled between busier resort areas. It was once a fishing and farming village for native Hawaiians and remains a favorite for those seeking a peaceful getaway.

Activities: Calm waters and a crescent-shaped bay make Napili ideal for family beach day, snorkeling, and paddleboarding. It’s common to see sea turtles gliding through the water. The beach is less commercialized, offering a more laid-back and natural experience.
